The Beautiful Letdown – Music Review

The Beautiful Letdown – Music Review

Stephanie Ottosen

Music Reviewer

Artist: Switchfoot
Label: Sparrow Records/Columbia Records

This album is by far one of the best I’ve heard in some time. From the opening guitar chords on track one’s “Meant to Live”—you can just imagine the crowds screaming when that electric guitar starts in—to the John Mayer-esque “More Than Fine,” to the closing ballad (“24”), each song flows seamlessly into the next and offers all the best flavors of modern rock heard today.

But don’t get too caught up in just the music. Once again, front man Jon Foreman maintains the lyrical integrity of the songs, poetically weaving a theme throughout about the gap between our humanity and the ultimate completion believers find in Christ.

Overall, the album fits well with Switchfoot’s three previous recordings but still has a distinctive flavor all its own. Fighting any inclination to make a cheesy pun on the title, it will suffice to say that this album won’t be leaving my stereo any time soon.
