Millions of Americans have already voted this year, but tens of millions more will cast their votes today.decision2012.jpg

Will you be among them?

I hope so.

Are you getting anxious as the polls swing back and forth and the pundits prognosticate?

The curtain is falling on arguably the most contentious and expensive election in American history. We’ve all been living through history – and phone calls, advertisements – and more advertisements.

Is there anything else that we can do?Proverbs1633.png

Yes.

We can pray. And then we must vote. And then we should pray some more.

But in the end, we must trust that the outcome of today’s election is safely in the hands of He whose hands hold us.

“The lot is cast into the lap,” wrote Solomon,  “but its every decision is from the Lord” (Proverbs 16:33).

Focus on the Family has partnered with a variety of like-minded organizations this year in an effort to help register a record number of voters who care deeply about the things the Lord cares about. We’ve recruited many, many volunteers to make phone calls and help spread the message. They’ve done a tremendous job. I’m proud of every one of them. My sense is that enthusiasm among this coalition is running extremely high all across the country.campfire1.jpg

In fact, I think many of the polls we see don’t accurately reflect the degree of passion that many Christians have concerning the many choices on today’s ballot.

I get the sense that the quiet voter of faith has grown weary of watching the stay-at-home vote decide elections.

I get the sense that, in the words of that old fictional philosopher, Popeye, that one by one people of faith are saying, “That’s all I can stands, and I can’t stands no more!”

I predict that we may be on the verge of a record Christian turnout today and that in the final analysis we’ll be buoyed by the reality that Christian values are still cherished and upheld by a great number of our fellow Americans.

“Elections belong to the people,” wrote Abraham Lincoln. “It's their decision. If they decide to turn their backs on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters.”

Can you feel the heat?

It’s always time to pray.

Now it’s time to vote.
