"Again" - Music Review

Artist:   Donnie McClurkin
Label:   Verity Records

At midpoint in Donnie McClurkin’s "Again" album, this slick, new, soul release suddenly transforms itself into a brief R&B worship service. It is here that McClurkin, who possesses the kind of full-bodied gospel voice that will likely appeal to fans of BeBe Winans and the like, stops talking about God and instead begins singing directly to his Maker.

On the song "Holy," McClurkin sounds right at home as he trades vocals with the Church of God in Christ Choir. Then he follows this up with "Create in Me a Clean Heart," which aurally illustrates the exact kind of spiritual intimacy he’s after.

McClurkin also sings a duet with Yolanda Adams ("The Prayer") and closes the album with a seven-minute altar-call-in song "He’s Calling You." "Again" is both contemporary and relevant, yet still anchored by pure worship.
