If you combined the sounds of mainstream stars Ricky Martin and Jon Secada and added overtly Christian lyrics, you would have Freddie Colloca ("ko-yo-ca"), one of the most charismatic singers to hit the contemporary Christian music scene in a long time.
After garnering several Dove award nominations for last year's English-language debut, Dance El Ritmo, Colloca is back with an even better disc of percussion-infused Latin dance tracks and tender ballads.
A techno-pop extravaganza, tinged with Latin style, Unconditional pushes Colloca's energetic voice to new limits on songs like Savior My Savior, a dance track with a blistering beat just daring you not to dance. The title track is also a highlight, using a slammin' beat and praise and worship lyrics to talk about how amazing God's love is.
Freddie Colloca is a refreshing artist with production at least the equal of other Latin superstars like Enrique Iglesias, Shakira and Marc Anthony. Perhaps this time next year Colloca will be collecting some Dove awards for Unconditional, a disc worth buying.
