The Lord your God will be with you wherever you go (Josh. 1:9). Christmas is really just another day; it’s one more special day to revel in the wonderful mystery of Emmanuel, God with us.

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial (James 1:12). It’s funny how our Christian walk can mirror the experience of setting up holiday decorations.

She shall bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for it is He who will save His people from their sins (Matt 1:21). Does the One who has everything have your heart?

The LORD is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit (Ps. 34:18). Christmas can be a time of sheer joy, yet it can also be a time of great pain.

The virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name 'Immanuel,' which is translated, 'God with us' (Matt. 1:23). There are many who are in need of encouragement at this time of year. They don’t need a Christmas present; they need His Christmas presence.

I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth (3 John 1:4). Make it your goal to give to God what He really wants.

Being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself (Phil. 2:8). Jesus was so willing to do whatever was required in order to redeem us from Satan and sin.

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you (Ezek. 36:26). Dr. Seuss's The Grinch certainly comes across as a Christian parable to me.

The hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed (Rom. 13:11). Advent is one of my favorite seasons in the Christian year. It's a special time where we reflect on the darkness and trials of this world in the light of our hope in Christ.

For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come (Heb. 13:14). I pictured the war-weary allied troops hearing this song the year it was recorded in 1943, listening to it on their radios at night, spellbound by the sound, longing to be back at home with their loved ones.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given (Isa. 9:6). From Hallmark dramas to children's books, the reason we always write a jerk into our holiday stories is because it's true.

When they saw the star, they were overjoyed (Matthew 2:10). At the center of Christmas is the heart of God.

Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father (Isaiah 9:6). It's not really important what your Nativity scene looks like. The important thing is what you think about the Child.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing (Rom. 15:13). "O Holy Night" sings of 'a thrill of hope.' Does Christmas thrill you? Why or why not?

Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near (Matt. 3:2). Let me ask you this question instead: "Are you ready for Jesus?"

His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isa. 9:6). What would a simple Christmas look like for you and your family?

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you (Luke 2:11). Everyone in the original story had something to give. What gifts could you give to Christ today?
