And when He got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him. However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.”
The story from this passage of Scripture is about a man who was controlled by evil spirits. He was demon-possessed. As a result of his demonic oppression, he was wild and uncontrollable. Children, women, and even men were afraid to go near this man. He ran naked through the tombs, cut himself with stones, and was always bloodied and wild-eyed.
The people had tried everything to tame this seemingly wild beast. He, like many in our own society today, was written off as incurable. But then the bondage breaker came—Jesus showed up. Imagine this: Jesus and His disciples get off a boat at the beach off the
Can’t you see it? The disciples must have wanted to get back in the boat. But this man wasn’t after the disciples—he was looking for Jesus. You see, he was possessed with demon spirits—spirits who knew Jesus well—and they wanted to confront the Messiah. Here is a confrontation of our Lord against evil—the same evil and spirits who put people in bondage today.
This ancient story still has a powerful effect of the power of Jesus Christ today and how He can deliver and change lives. Now don’t underestimate the power of the enemy.
They have these desires because sin, Satan, and his hordes have powerful influence upon the lives of individuals. I’m certain this man would have never have imagined that this could have happened to him. But praise God for the Bondage Breaker—Jesus! I don’t know what you’re addicted to or the grip Satan may have upon your life, but I do know that Jesus has the power over all the works of the enemy and He can set you free.
ONLY CHRIST CAN CHANGE THE EVIL FOUND IN THE HUMAN HEART.
