Out of Africa: God's Light Shines in Squalor of Kibera Slum

The smell of Kibera haunts me at night, even a week after returning to the United States. A stream of urine flows through the slum’s mud ditches, yielding a powerful stench on a hot afternoon. Rotten produce tossed in with animal and human excrement multiplied the stomach-turning effect.
