Witnessing in the Workplace
- Wednesday, June 19, 2002
It is amazing how God can use the willingness and availability of just one person to touch many lives for Christ.
Peter was an executive for an insurance company. One morning at a Christian businessmen's breakfast, he met a Campus Crusade for Christ staff member named Henry. They talked briefly after the meeting, and Henry invited Peter to lunch.
During lunch, by asking a few questions, Henry discovered that Peter had received Christ as his Savior and Lord, but was not sure that Christ was still in his life. Henry briefly reviewed the Four Spiritual Laws with him (see http://www.ccci.org/laws/languages.html), then carefully explained the section on how we can be assured of Christ n our lives. Peter understood, and indicated that he now knew Christ lived in his heart.
During the course of lunch, Henry also discovered that Peter had 40 people reporting to him at work. He asked Peter if any of his associates were interested in spiritual things. Peter said he thought that the company's vice president was open to spiritual matters, so they made an appointment to have lunch with him the following week.
Next week, at lunch, Henry shared the Four Spiritual Laws with the vice president, as Peter watched. The vice president did not receive Christ then, but he did later that evening.
The next day the vice president told Peter what he had done. Peter was so excited he called Henry from work to tell him what had happened. Henry then asked Peter, "Do you ever have meetings when all of your employees are together?"
Peter said, "Yes, every Friday morning we have a sales meeting." The two of them planned for Henry to come on the following Friday and to share a short message about the relevance of Christ to the business person.
When Friday morning finally came, Peter gave his own testimony and introduced Henry. Henry shared a spoken version of the Four Spiritual Laws. After the meeting, there were several men who indicated an interest in learning more about the Christian life. A small follow-up group was organized to meet on Thursday mornings before work.
Peter is an example of how many people in the workplace are really hungry to understand spiritual truth, and how one committed person can make a difference.
Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission
each year until our Lord returns,
