A new TV show based on John Milton’s famous epic poem “Paradise Lost,” which tells the story of Adam and Eve and the Fall, will soon be released.

Actor Martin Freeman, who is known for his role as Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit films, as well as his role on the original British “Office,” as well as on “Sherlock,” will be producing the series.

“’Paradise Lost’ is epic, exciting, and surprisingly modern. And maybe the first time the devil gets all the best tunes!” Freeman said while discussing the new series with Variety.com.

Dancing Ledge Productions’ CEO Laurence Bowen, who is one of Freeman’s production partners, added that “‘Paradise Lost’ is like a biblical ‘Games of Thrones,’ transporting the reader into an internecine world of political intrigue and incredible violence. At stake? The future of mankind. There’s never been a better time for big, original, bold drama series, and Martin and I both feel incredibly inspired by the material.”

“Paradise Lost” was written by Milton in the 17th century. Originally published, it had over 10,000 lines of verse and recreates the entire biblical story of Creation, the Fall, and what happened to Adam and Eve following their disobedience to God through eating the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. The character of Satan also plays a major role in the epic poem.

Relevant Magazine notes that it is not yet known what network will carry the show.
