According to CBN News, the University of Notre Dame could be facing penalties for not providing birth control as part of its insurance policy. Under the Affordable Care Act (better known as Obamacare), the university is required to provide its employees with birth control. However, as a Catholic institution, Notre Dame believes such an act violates their freedom of religion. CBN News writes,

“Notre Dame filed suit last year, claiming that forcing the university to offer birth control as part of its insurance plan violates the school's freedom of religion. However, on Friday, the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago upheld a judge's earlier ruling that denied the school's request to delay penalties as the lawsuit moves forward.”

Further legal arguments are ongoing.
