Rep. Scalise is Back in Intensive Care Unit

Rep. Steve Scalise, who was one of five people injured in the shooting that took place last month at a practice for the Congressional Baseball Game for Charity, has had a setback and is reportedly again in the intensive care unit.
According to CNN.com, the reason for Scalise’s readmission to the intensive care unit is “due to new concerns for infection” following multiple surgeries.
“Congressman Steve Scalise has been readmitted to the Intensive Care Unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center due to new concerns for infection,’’ said a tweet from the hospital. “His condition is listed as serious.”
Scalise, who is the Republican House Majority Whip, was shot in the left hip, and according to his doctor, suffered “significant damage” to blood vessels, bones, and some internal organs.
Scalise was initially in critical condition following the shooting, but two weeks ago was released from the intensive care unit.
Lawmakers and Americans from both political parties united in their prayers for Scalise’s recovery, even using the hashtag “#PrayForScalise.”
The four other people who were injured in the shooting are still recovering from the injuries they suffered, but all have been released from the hospital.
Despite the shooting, the Congressional Baseball Game went on as planned the day after. David Bailey, a Capitol Police special agent who was injured in the shooting, even threw out the first pitch at the game.
