‘Wolf Moon’ and Brightness of Venus Cause Apocalyptic Predictions

Certain signs in the heavens and current world events have caused some Christians to believe that the end times are near.

Yesterday (Jan. 12) saw the appearance of a “Wolf Moon,” the first full moon of the year. In addition to this, the planet Venus was at its brightest in eight years. These two events occurred the evening before Friday the 13th.

Although all three of these events are not extremely rare occurrences, some have speculated that it is significant that they happened on the same day.

To back up their prophetic predictions, some cite Luke 21:25 which says “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring."

Some have also noted how tumultuous the world is currently with crises such as Aleppo and the Arab-Israeli conflict. They have also noted the impending inauguration of President-elect Donald trump--a major political event. These events, they say, could be interpreted as the “distress of nations.”

While some are quick to say that astronomical occurrences and current world events are apocalyptic signs, other Christians take a more measured approach.

The Rev. Billy Graham has cautioned against trying to predict the end of the world:

“The world as we know it will only come to an end in God's time and in God's way — and only when He intervenes to usher in a perfect world of peace and righteousness," Graham wrote on the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s website.
