A Change in Perspective - Saturday, April 6th 2013

2 Corinthians 8:9

"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich."

Have you ever noticed how our perspective can change pretty quickly when we have certain information? Consider these statistics:

80% of the world lives with no running water or electricity.

9% of the world owns cars.

50% of the world eats one small meal a day... or less.

50% lives on $2 a day or less.

If you make over $730 a year, you are in the wealthiest upper half of the world's population.

In fact, 6% of the world holds 50% of the wealth and they are all Americans. I am not ashamed or embarrassed to be an American. I'm also not trying to make you feel bad for being blessed. Just the opposite, I hope you feel grateful for what God has given you. It's important to recognize that with those blessings come responsibility. Yet, according to the Barna Research Group, only 4% of Americans give 10% of their income to church. Yes, some churches are able to minister to others and share the Gospel, but what more could be done if God's people gave like they should? It's estimated that if every evangelical Christian gave $239, we could potentially stop the global deaths of children under five. In the same way, if Christians gave $26 a year, we could fund over $544 million in efforts towards global evangelism.

Friend, feel your heart beat. With every beat of your heart, a person is dying, most of them not knowing Jesus. They are eternally separated from God, but you and I can do something about it. Small things make big differences. Our Lord gave up everything so that we could have eternal life. Can we not set aside part of our finances for those who need to know the love of God? With God's power, we can.

Life Lesson: Spending money to share the Gospel is one of the best uses of money.

Dear God,
Thank You for the blessings You have given me. Even the ability to read this devotion today is because You have given me eyes to see, the schooling I needed to read and the technology to receive it. Give me eyes to realize my blessings and the desire and opportunity to bless others. Use my gifts no matter how big or small to change lives around the world with the Gospel. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Living to tell what He died to say,
Pastor David McGee
