In the Bible

Psalm 19:7-9

"The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether."

What words does David use to describe the law, decrees and commandments of God? What benefits does David get from the words of God?

The people who spend time reading and studying the Bible will tell you, "It's changed my life!" That sounds good, but that word study feels like a big fat roadblock.

Even just reading the Bible seems like an impossible mission: most Bibles have more than 1,000 pages, and it's not the easiest read in the world. So how do you get started?

The first thing to realize is that the Bible is just like any other book being published today. There's a plot, there's conflict, there are complex characters, there's a climax and resolution. But unlike the latest Clancy novel, the Bible is actually relevant to your life. What's more, you are a key figure in the Bible.

The big story of the Bible is of how God created you and loves you; about how sin snuck into your life and threatened to make you a slave forever; how God performed the ultimate rescue mission by paying your ransom that sin demanded; and how you can now live as a free citizen of God's kingdom.

Granted, with 1,000 plus pages it takes a while to see the big picture, never mind all the little details. But like was said earlier, these details are so much more than trivia facts, they are the things you need to know to live a happy and fulfilled life. They are things that will help you meet any situation. They provide the perspective you need to see that ray of hope when everything is dark and cloudy.

Lord Jesus, please give me wisdom and insight as I study Your Word. And help me to live what I read. Amen.
