There's An App For That: How Do I Get Rid of Fear and Worry? | Matthew 6:33

Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

How Can I Get Rid of Fear and Worry? Major on the Major!

John Wooden was one of the greatest coaches of all time. His UCLA Bruin basketball teams still hold the NCAA record for consecutive wins. But Wooden did not focus on the wins. In fact, he never talked about winning. He drilled his players on the basics. He believed that if you focused on the fundamentals of the game, winning would take care of itself.

Jesus said much the same thing in our passage today. Our life effort is often directed toward “these things”—food, clothing, shelter…the tangible stuff we want to have and hold. But when we chase after the “minor” stuff, we miss the “major” thing. Following hard after God allows us to have the most important thing. And…God will throw in “these things” as well.

So…what will it be? Chasing after “these things” and missing the main thing? Or pursuing God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength; and trusting him to provide all the other stuff you need? Ball’s in your court!

Lord, please help us to be wise enough to desire to seek your kingdom and righteousness first. Then give us the strength to do it. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
