The Journey with Ron Moore

Living Hope | 1 Peter 2:7 | Devotional

1 Peter 2:7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone…."

Quoting from Psalm 118:22, Peter likens those who do not believe as a builder who foolishly decides not to use the most important stone of the building. The capstone, or “head stone of the corner” determined the alignment and integrity of the building. Only a foolish builder would reject the capstone. But for believers, “this stone is precious.”

For true believers, there is nothing more honored, valued, and respected than our relationship with Jesus, the “living Stone” (1 Peter 2:4). To be in union with him provides abundant life with him now and eternity with him later. His Spirit lives within us to teach, challenge, comfort, and yes, convict us of sin that takes us down dangerous paths.

C. H. Spurgeon says that hidden within Jesus are “all the precious things of the eternal covenant; and there he shall for ever remain, the foundation of all our hopes, the glory of all our joys, the uniting bond of all our fellowship” (Treasury of David, vol.3, 110).

Lord Jesus, thank you for being the “foundation of all our hopes”, “the glory of all our joys”, and the “uniting bond of all our fellowship.” We pray in your precious name. Amen.
