Strength through Him | Philippians 4:12-13

Philippians 4:12-13 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

  • Received 40 lashes - five times
  • Beaten with rods - three times
  • Shipwrecked - three times
  • Stoned - one time
  • Went without sleep
  • Went without food
  • Went without clothes in the cold

In summary, Paul said, “I have been in prison . . . been flogged . . . and been exposed to death again and again” (2 Corinthians 11:23). The great Apostle understood what it was like to live in great need and to have plenty. Through it all he explained, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Whatever God calls us to do, he give us the “can do.” Whatever the situation, we can do what God wants us to do through his strength. Ability does not come from positive thinking. It comes from the power of the Spirit who lives in us. In every situation God provides his strength.

Father, help me face my fear of inadequacy. Thank you for providing strength for every assignment. Thank you for the ability to do everything you call us to do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
