Community: How Does It Work? | Romans 12:13
Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
The essence of community is found in the person of God. The expression of community is found in the people of God. Community is much more that showing up at a weekend service, singing a few songs, listening to a message and heading to lunch. Community is not about just doing church together. It’s about doing life together.
In the Christian community, there are no “Have’s” and “Have Not’s.” We all stand on level ground at the foot of the cross. We all have needs. And…we all have something to share. Everyone can share…
- A timely word of encouragement
- Spiritual gifts to serve others
- A meal at your home or a restaurant
- Financial help
And the list goes on and on. Our passage today is not directed only to those who have financial resources. The exhortation is for all of us. What do you have to share? What are you waiting for?
Father, help us to be those ready and willing to share all the gifts you have given, whether in the form of money, food, time, or spiritual gifts. Lord, teach us through experience the absolute joy of sharing with others what you have so generously given to us. In Jesus name. Amen.
