Who Is Jesus?
"Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross."(ESV) Philippians 2:5-8
How can I better understand Jesus as both fully human and fully divine?
We look at Jesus--dressed as a man, using the same language as man, expressing the same emotions as man--and we lose sight of the fact that He is so much more than a man. Jesus isn't an angel or a prophet; He isn't merely God's spokesperson, like Isaiah, Jeremiah or Ezekiel or the angels Michael or Gabriel. Jesus is God Himself --the exact representation of His being. He is the full revelation of God, and we have no clearer view of God than through Jesus Christ.
In Philippians 2:5-8 we read that Jesus is both fully human and fully divine. God came to earth in human form, and then made the ultimate sacrifice on a cross so we can be resurrected with Him in Heaven. He is our Lord and Savior, and there is no better connection to God than through Jesus Christ Himself.
Lord, thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice in giving me Your Son Jesus to speak Your word to me. Amen.
