Love the Unlovely and Unlovable - Saturday, January 7th 2017

Dan 4:9

"Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, because I know that the Spirit of the Holy God is in you, and no secret troubles you, explain to me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and its interpretation."

For 30 years Daniel served in the King's court. Nebuchadnezzar had seen something in Daniel that was really special, "no secret troubles you." We see King Nebuchadnezzar drawn toward Daniel and his counsel. Friend what troubles you? Are you easily shaken by the circumstances of your marriage? Your children? Your work place? Or do people notice there is something different about you. Do they notice you aren't easily troubled by what others are troubled by? Sometimes our circumstances can reveal if we are building on the rock of the Lord's promises or on the sandy (shaky) foundation of our own flesh.

Now what did trouble Daniel?

Dan 4:19
Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonished for a time, and his thoughts troubled him. So the king spoke, and said, "Belteshazzar, do not let the dream or its interpretation trouble you."

It had been revealed to Daniel that the judgement of God was coming against Nebuchadnezzar and he sat there astonished with troubled thoughts. Nebuchadnezzar had torn Daniel away from his home in Jerusalem, castrated him, forced him to learn the ways of Babylon, and nearly killed him, his friends and all the wise men in Babylon in Daniel 2. In spite of every reason to be glad for the King's judgement Daniel had a heart for Nebuchadnezzar and chose to intercede on his behalf. So too our Lord continues to intercede on our behalf and calls us to become like Him. He causes us to be His witnesses to the world that has fallen into sin and judgement so that His love might shine through us to those around us. And like Daniel and like Jesus we can begin to show that love to the unlovely and those the world may call unlovable.

Life Lesson: We fellowship, we pray, we love, we serve, we give, and every time we walk with the Lord in this we are interceding for others.

Please forgive me for when I have cared less for those in my life who seem difficult to reach. Lord please help me walk in the power of Your Spirit and the power of Your love toward those who don't know you. Help me to have courage in my fear, compassion when I'm callous, and love when I see the lost. Thank you for loving me and using me to love others. In Jesus name, Amen.

Living to tell what He died to say,
