Forgiveness - Monday, April 15th 2019
31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
Please notice a couple things about these verses. It says "let all bitterness wrath of anger" not just some, but ALL. It also tells us to "be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another." Then it tells us how to forgive and what our forgiveness looks like. Like God forgave us in Christ. How seriously does God take us speaking against other people? Check out these verses in Proverbs.
16 These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
17 A proud look, A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
19 A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.
God tells us in these verses that He hates the shedding of innocent blood. Do you realize what God did to be able to forgive us? He shed the innocent blood of His Son, Jesus. He hated to do that, but He did it because He loves you. He did it so there would be a way for you to come to Him and be His child. Wow.
And then He says "Now you forgive others."
If God was willing to do something He hated to forgive us, you can stretch yourself and forgive somebody else, especially when you don't even have to shed any of your blood to forgive them! That's what God has told us to do. It is not an option. If we love Him, we do what He says. You cannot receive forgiveness, and give other people unforgiveness. In order to be forgiven, you must forgive others. Jesus Himself tells us this.
Life Lesson: You cannot withhold forgiveness for any reason or excuse.
Thank You for sending your only begotten Son to die and rise again so that I could be forgiven and saved and adopted into Your family. Thank You for Jesus. Please forgive me for speaking against others and holding on to unforgiveness and anger from the past. Father, I am sorry and I choose to forgive those who have wronged me and I choose to speak good and pleasant and edifying things about others. Help me to always be kind and tender hearted. I need Your help Lord, strengthen me. I also ask You for wisdom and grace to do this. Thank You, Lord! I pray this by faith in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Living to tell what He died to say,
