Obama Administration Appears to Side with Iran as Nuclear Talks Continue

The deadline to make a deal on Iran’s nuclear program is fast approaching.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is in talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and an agreement is expected by Tuesday, CNN reports.

"We have difficult issues to resolve," Kerry told reporters on Sunday. "At this point negotiations could go either way. If hard choices get made in the next couple of days and made quickly, we could get an agreement this week. But if they are not made, we will not."

Some news outlets are reporting that the Obama administration has sided with Iran in regards to a list of violations. According to HotAir.com, Iran was asked to turn all their excess uranium gas into dioxide powder, but the country instead converted it to a different type of oxide that can be converted back to usable uranium.

This, experts say, is a violation of a 2013 interim nuclear order, but the Obama administration, critics argue, say the suspected violations are not covered under the interim order, also known as the Joint Plan of Action.

Recently, a U.S. official told The Associated Press that some of the uranium had been converted to another form of oxide— one that is difficult to reconvert back to enriched uranium.

“It seems as if the Obama Administration has ‘switched sides,’ playing the role of Iran’s attorney and explaining away their violations, rather than protecting the country by guaranteeing that Iran follow the JPOA,” the article at HotAir.com says.
