I Want my . . .

For the first time, my four-year-old daughter was coming to my office to have me, a dental hygenist, clean her teeth. We had gone over everything at home so she would know what to expect.

On the day of her appointment, she was accompanied by her grandmother.

When they came in, I greeted them warmly, seated her, and, as usual, put on my gloves, goggles, and mask and then turned to face my daughter in the dental chair.

I was taking it real slow, so things were going smoothly at first. About ten minutes into the procedure, however, she suddenly got scared and cried . . . .

 . . . . "I want my mommy! I want my mommy!"

I quickly pulled off my mask and said, "Honey, look . . .  I AM your mommy! It's me, sweetie."

Without hesitation, my daughter yelled back.....

 . . . .  "Then I want my granny!"
