Today is the annual March for Life here in Washington. Tens of thousands of people are here not only protesting the Supreme Court’s 1973 removal of the constitutional protection to life in the womb, but to affirm the value of life at all stages.

The media will mostly ignore the event, or put the pro-choicers on the air to demonstrate “balance.” But the commitment of these wonderful people who come to Washington in cold and often rainy or snowy conditions is unlike anything I have ever seen.

If government ever restores legal protection to the unborn, it will largely be due to these selfless people, who pay their own way to Washington and all their expenses while they are here. They receive no political -- and certainly no financial benefits -- from this march. They also endure a lot of ridicule from the secular elites.

Like that other war, the war about morals, culture, the role of government, the courts and the constitution is likely to continue for a long time. We are having this debate because we no longer pay attention to the voice of God. It is as simple and as disturbing as that.
