Students have a right to protest in school. It doesn't matter if we agree with what they're protesting or not. Saying that the protesters in school are wrong and then advocating a counter protest is holding a dangerous double standard that only gives fuel to the accusations of Christian intolerance. If the pro-family coalition is calling for a boycott and counter protest to say what they believe in, why can't other students and faculty have a peaceful, legal protest to advocate their own beliefs? Is it simply because their beliefs don't necesarily agree with ours that we condemn their right to protest? The Bible says in the 2nd Commandment that we are to love our neighbor as ourselves. Doesn't love also insinuate respect? Doesn't respecting them mean we should also respect their beliefs, even if they aren't ours? Respecting someone else's beliefs isn't the same as believing in them ourselves or advocating them. It just makes it easier to tell them your own beliefs in return.

Involving kids in this volitile social conflict has no place in the classroom. So Homosexuals are unhappy??--what about the persecution perpetrated against straight kids who go to school to get an education? Peacefully boycotting this nonsense and intrusion on their right to study and be taught the three R's is certainly worthy of support. Sincerely, Ruth and Edward Herbert
