Denounce the Iraq Vote

Cal Thomas

Syndicated Columnist

March 29, 2007

Senate Democrats have joined their House counterparts in raising the white flag of surrender. The Senate voted 50-48 in a non-binding vote to withdraw American troops from Iraq one year from now.

Some responsible Democrats had opposed a withdrawal date until pressure was brought on them by Majority Leader Harry Reid. Some House Democrats sold their vote for pork promised by the House leadership. It is pathetic. There must be rejoicing in that cave in Afghanistan where Osama bin Laden hides.

The President may have found his voice on this at last. He was forceful Wednesday in denouncing the vote. Nothing would improve public opinion quicker and seal the Democrats’ fate as a party that cannot be trusted with our national security than continued progress in Iraq. That should be the hope and prayer of all Americans, but the political left hates George Bush and Republicans so much they would encourage defeat and surrender rather than victory over terrorism.

This is how sick our politics has become; it is an ugly site to behold.
