Former Tennessee Senator Fred Thomson and former Speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gingrich have both stated that they might declare a candidacy for the presidency. We welcome both men to the race, but urge them to make their decisions sooner rather than later.
Unlike others decrying the long campaign ahead, we at Townhall.com believe that this is a stroke of good fortune—the issues are so complex and the war is such a huge issue that the public needs a lot of time to compare and contrast the candidates seeking their support.
We applaud Mayor Giuliani, Senator McCain, Governor Romney and all the others in the hunt for the presidency for their willingness to appear on talk radio and answer questions from the blogs and other new media as well as the mainstream media. We expect nothing less of Speaker Gingrich and Senator Thompson and we hope they dive in sooner—or not at all.
Voters deserve a long and a close look at the candidates. The process should begin as soon as possible.
