As a bottom line up front, the military objectives of the surge are, in large measure, being met. In recent months, in the face of tough enemies and the brutal summer heat of Iraq, Coalition and Iraqi Security Forces have achieved progress in the security arena.
The protestors in the hearing rooms and the hysterical anti-Bush partisans at MoveOn.org who attacked General Petraeus betray that they are more interested in rhetoric than results, and do not care a whit about the Iraqi people or the broader war on terror.
On this sixth anniversary of 9/11, we urge Americans to put these divisive voices aside and focus on the general’s testimony. The surge is working and America is winning a battle on a crucial front to our success in the global war on terror.
