Not only is Mike Huckabee a man of moral clarity, who can lead America by moving American hearts. He is the most experienced executive branch leader of all the candidates. And his knowledge and experience in international relations is extensive.

illegal immigration:
Huckabee is right when he says it is a Federal issue & as governor he had no power, except to deal with the current state as the Feds gave it to him. I will give him, Giuliani, & all others a pass on their past performance at a local or state level. That includes Hillary's recent support for NY STATE driver licenses for illegals. Her quick flip-flop was kinda funky though.

I'll only judge past federal-level actions of those who have had federal responsibilities, such as McCain whose bill was atrocious. Sen. Clinton, Thompson, Obama, Edwards, and Reps Hunter & Ron Paul have all had federal responsibly. I'll also judge current promises. The closer they match Duncan Hunter, the better.

re. federal smoking ban
Although he claims to support "federalism" (i.e., States' Rights), he says that if the populace overwhelmingly supported a national ban, he'd do it. That's not principled. It doesn't sound like someone who would limit federal government because it is the right thing to do. Is he going to give us judges that have principles he lacks? Judges matter longer than the president that appoint them. Their rulings affect our great-great-grandchildren's children. Lower court appointments create the next decades' crop of Supremes.

A second bit of weaseling I detect is the idea that if Congress gave him a bill to sign, that means that there is overwhelming public support. More likely 51% support. He's just too weasely for me.

I am sickended by the fact that Huckabee and other politicians pander the Christian vote. The fact is that all of these guys claim to be Christians. "When democracy comes to this country, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross"

If you want charity, then allow the church to serve its function in the community!!!

Ron Paul wants to do this. Let us return to the Bible as our spiritual compass and return to the CONSTITUTION as our political compass!!!

If you have any respect for the Constitution, then this should impress you:

Ron Paul's record:

He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
He has never voted for abortion, and was an OB/GYN who delivered over 4000 babies.
He voted against the Patriot Act.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.
The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years.
During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependency; from dependency back again to bondage."
--Attributed to Scottish History Professor at University of Edinburgh Sir Alexander Fraser Tytler (1747-1813)

The man is obviously a Christain and we should treat him as a brother. We can't judge his heart (that would be a sin) but we can judge his fruit (his words and his actions).

I think he responded very well to most of the issues that Frank Pastore has brought up. Huckabee has more depth than has been shown in the debates and in his own ads. So, I am encouraged, however I still have concerns over some of his answers.

His strong convictions are apparent and I think they're an asset to his character. However his conviction for a smoking ban is weak as he would not work for it other than sign a bill if the Congress passed one. If it means so little to him (he does not give this the same weight as his tax policy where he would use his power as the "Communicator in Chief" to push it through legislation) I just wish he would give it up. A government ban on smoking is a liberal "nanny state" policy that will never sit well with true conservatives.
