New Contest Seeks to Buy Out the Nation's 'Ten Worst Teachers'

This article is truly discouraging. As a teacher and Christian, I am currently answering my "calling" to make our schools better by being a state-level NEA president in Kansas. We focus our resources on helping teachers get better and even on helping teachers that just don't seem to have it find THEIR real calling elsewhere. When someone with ulterior motives criticizes the dedicated work of our teachers, it harms every one of the professionals. By the way, 50% of new teachers don't make it more than three years in the profession so I'm not worried that we don't fire enough teachers. Rather we need to provide more support & a salary to match other professions. We especially need to do more to help the schools serving the poorest students.
