Mr. Griswold is the one who is being silly here. His claim that there is no evidence of wage suppression is beyond belief.

If there were a competitive market with such shortages, the wages for high tech workers would be escalating far faster than the general inflation rate. The fact that there is no such wage escalation shows that there is in fact no shortage.

Mr. Griswold and his friends at the Cato Institute would have you believe that there are no people to apply for any jobs. In fact, there are a surplus of applicants for these positions.

Recenly, I applied for a high-level CTO job. I was told there were over 100 applicants for this position. So where is the shortage of workers?

The unseen issue in all of this is that our economy is tanking, unemployement is up and underemployment (working doing the same or some other job for less money than you were making prior to being laid off) is HUGE, and the leadership in business is trying to put more people in the US out of work. ANd they want We The People's elected representatives to assist.

I think its time that Congress enacts legislation so that Microsoft and TATA Consulting, et al will have to document how many American workers they interviewed before they looked for visa workers. We might want to interview those rejected workers also. If they hire visa workers - how many years do they stay here and are they sure they go home. What is the salary level for the same job in the locale and what do they pay these workers. Also most importantly remove any tax breaks from hiring non-US employees or consultants.

Greed is as a sin and it seems to be the motivating force behind offshoring US jobs.
