Wow. Years ago, I was in a band and I mentioned the Bible; a fan said she memorized a favorite passage from Ezekiel. I was impressed until I found out later it was actually a quote from the Tarantino movie "Pulp Fiction"-- that film has a fictional quote like Nancy Pelosi's. How dumb are people that repeat a false quote wrongly for years, and no one notices? One possible explanation is that she is so sure she is right about everything, she ends up blindly deluding herself.
On the content of the made-up quote, however, I recently spoke to a speaker at a large church after he had delivered an 'environmental' sermon, declaring the environment to be the top priority for every Christian. I challenged him to provide some proof texts that we are to 'revere' the earth or that abuse of it is sinful. We found a few very interesting points, like 'don't mistreat your donkey' or 'boil not a calf in its mother's milk.' But really nothing much beyond Gen. 1, we are to be stewards of the earth.
