The Debate is Far from Over

Cal Thomas

Syndicated Columnist

April 21, 2008

Probably the worst time for any president of either party to try something new or radical is in his last year in office. But President Bush has decided to take up the myth of global warming in his last months.

Just as increasing numbers of scientists are finding enough courage to speak out against global warming alarmists and as a building body of evidence and theories challenge the key elements of the notion that humans are warming the planet, the president steps into it.

On any issue you have to look at who is for and who is against. And you have to look at the evidence. Al Gore and his followers claim the debate is over. No real scientist would declare the debate over about anything. And Gore won’t debate the issue with anyone on the other side. Anyone who is so sure of his position has nothing to fear from allowing it to be challenged.

This is about growing government even larger and regulating our lives even more. Those evangelicals who have signed onto this myth haven’t done their homework and with the secularists are blowing hot air.
