After Denver and St. Paul, Enough with Politics

Cal Thomas

Syndicated Columnist

September 8, 2008

Had enough politics? I’m back in Washington after two weeks of nonstop politics, first in Denver with the Democrats and then this week with the Republicans in St. Paul.

So much of our politics is based on feelings, because that is how our culture has conditioned us. If we want substance, we must demand it. We must think and reason and not be seduced by how a candidate makes us feel, or his race, or her gender, or even what party our parents belonged to all their lives.

Iran and much of the Arab and Muslim world have said they prefer one candidate over the other. Can you guess which one? Why would they prefer him? Could it be because they think he would rather negotiate than fight? It ought to disturb us when our enemies say they would rather have one candidate over another.

Think and pray. God puts up and brings down leaders for His own purposes. The kingdom of this world is passing away. Will God spare us? All nations to him are a drop in the bucket and less than nothing. What we need more than the right president is a revival. Pray for that and the rest will take care of itself.
