Will ACORN Ever Fall?

Cal Thomas

Syndicated Columnist

October 23, 2008

You’ve heard a lot recently about a group called ACORN. They’ve been registering liberal Democrats to vote in the November 4 election and thousands of the names they’ve turned in to officials have been phony or fraudulent, like the Dallas Cowboys football players as just one example.

Now comes this from the New York Times, no less: “An internal report by a lawyer for the community organizing group ACORN raises questions about whether the web of relationships among its 174 affiliates may have led to violations of federal laws.”

Tens of thousands of allegedly bogus registrations were done in Ohio, but the Secretary of State says she doesn’t have the manpower to check them all, even though a judge has ordered it. You know what is going to happen, don’t you? Possibly millions of people who are not qualified to vote will do so and will make a significant difference in this election.

Does any of this make a difference? Does violating federal law mean these people should be held responsible? Apparently not.
