Only Bigots Support Traditional Marriage

Cal Thomas

November 10, 2008

If you think marriage should be between a man and a woman you are a bigot. That’s what the New York Times editorial page calls you – a bigot.

Commenting on the passage of measures in four states, including California, that restrict marriage to male-female unions, the Times said these measures “enshrine bigotry.” It particularly singled out the Mormon church in California for spending millions to help pass that state’s measure.

So, if you hold to your beliefs based on religious principles you are a bigot. In fact, this was a rebuke to courts and judges who think they alone have the right to determine how we wish to live.

The California measure passed by a 52-48 majority, down from the 61-39 percent approval of the original law which was overturned by that state’s Supreme Court. The momentum is clearly on the side of the homosexuals. With more liberal judges coming and the attitude that government should not restrict anyone’s supposed right to do – or be – anything they wish (except Christian and conservative, of course) it won’t be long before marriage is defined however any individual wishes it to be.
