Is One World Government Closer Than We Think?

Cal Thomas

Syndicated Columnist

December 10, 2008

What would a one-world government look like if it comes? I am not a conspiratist who sees evil behind every door, but a column by Gideon Rachman in the December 8 Financial Times got my attention.

Rachman said he is slowly coming to the view that a world without nation states, subject to an overarching authority, as with the European Union, may be closer than we think. He notes that in “The Audacity of Hope,” Barack Obama argues, “When the world’s sole superpower willingly restrains its power and abides by internationally agreed-upon standards of conduct, it sends a message that these are worth following.”

Rachman notes the importance that Obama attaches to the United Nations because he has nominated Susan Rice to be U.N. ambassador and wants to raise that office to cabinet rank.

Increasingly we hear our leaders speak less of the uniqueness and wonder that is America and more of the world. We hear about global problems and the global economy which we are told require global solutions. Liberals are sometimes embarrassed by America. The more radical among them would be happy if America ceased to be. If one-world government is created, they might get their wish.
