Forcing Immorality: Obama against Conscience Clauses

Cal Thomas

Syndicated Columnist

December 19, 2008

Anyone who doubts the aggressiveness of the incoming Obama administration when it comes to abortion and related matters is about to get a reality check.

Obama and his team plan to overturn every restriction on abortion it can find. Press reports say this will include a “freedom of conscience” regulation that allows people who oppose abortion and birth control to opt-out of giving advice to women who want such things.

You have only to consider what the left would think were it were required to give pro-life information to abortion-minded women to see the horror of such a move. If you are a nurse and work in a hospital that performs abortions and you are morally, even religiously, opposed to the procedure, you could be forced to participate in one or risk losing your job.

This is secular fundamentalism on steroids. But it is only the beginning. Obama and his band of lefties want to completely restructure the social and moral foundations of our country. And they will have the power to do it, thanks in part to those so-called evangelicals who think abortion is just one of many issues.
