Even Free Press Needs a Watchdog

Cal Thomas

Syndicated Columnist

January 5, 2008

On Friday, I made the case for helping your local newspaper survive, no matter how frustrated you might be with it. Today I want to tell you another survival story.

The Media Research Center does a great job of monitoring mainstream media bias. Because of the struggling economy, they are in danger of having to downsize – and, in fact, have already begun to do so. This could mean less oversight of the media during the early months of the Obama administration. We saw and read the slanted, even worshipful, coverage of Obama during the campaign. Do you want the big media to have free reign during the Obama years with no one to hold them accountable?

If you have not visited the MRC Web site to see the kind of work they do, I encourage you to do so. If you benefit as much as I do from the information they provide, I hope you will consider a monthly contribution as small as $20 to keep them going. We need a free press, but we also need a watchdog to monitor the press and no one does it better than the Media Research Center. Visit mrc.org today and see if you can help them out with a contribution. Thanks.
