The Circus Is Back in Congress

Cal Thomas

Syndicated Columnist

January 7, 2009

Congress is back in town, which means the circus has returned.

Democrats performed like George Wallace in the schoolhouse door when they barred Roland Burris from taking a seat as the junior senator from Illinois.

Burris has not been convicted of a crime and neither has the governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, who legally appointed him. I thought you were innocent until proven guilty in America. Democrats like Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says a cloud hangs over the selection because of allegations by U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald that Blagojevich tried to sell the seat for money and/or political advantage. Fitzgerald recently sought and got an extension of time for his investigation. There has been no indictment, much less a conviction of the governor.

Then we have the circus in Minnesota. Democrats are refusing to seat Al Franken who supposedly won after a lengthy recount that included the double counting of votes. Just remember, Democrats are in control of the circus. Get your peanuts. It’s going to be fun to watch.
