Time for the Conservative Team to Play Offense

Cal Thomas

Syndicated Columnist

March 3, 2009

This is a teachable moment for those of us who are conservatives.

Do you see what Democrats and liberals do when they have power? They use it!

And what do Republicans and conservatives do when they have power? They try to defend themselves against charges they are insensitive and don’t care about children and the elderly.

You can’t win this stand-off if you’re a conservative Republican. Feelings will always triumph over sound ideas in the age of the Oprah, whiners, entitlement and envious culture.

So here’s what conservatives and Republicans must do. First, they need to start talking the way liberals d Obama’s policies are harmful and hurtful. Obama’s policies will threaten small businesses and put us in debt to the Chinese for generations.

Conservatives should also start showing the results of their ideas: people who once were poor and now are not; people who were once dependent on government and are now free. Philosophy alone can’t win over feelings. Let’s start playing offense.
