My syndicated newspaper column is 25 years old this month. When it started in 1984, I told God that if he gave me this wonderful opportunity, I would seek to honor him with it. I trust he is satisfied that I have tried to do that, if not always perfectly, then at least consistently.

The column has given me entre to many people I might never have met. The purpose is not to drop names, but to share the Gospel with them, which I have done in person and at dinner meetings in our home and through the National Prayer Breakfast.  We have seen several come to Christ.

This is why God has honored me through this column, because I have tried to honor him. The promise is found in 1 Samuel 2:30: “He who honors me, I will honor.”

We have that backwards so often. We want God to honor us before we honor him and to bless our plans done in his name, but not in his power. Someone asked me recently if God is my co-pilot. I replied, “No, God is my pilot. I’m back in the passengers section.” To many who have prayed for me over the years, thank you. As for the column, tell your newspaper you like it, please.
