Divorce is expensive…emotionally, spiritually, relationally and monetarily. And God hates divorce, which ought to be the biggest disincentive of all.

This story caught my attention in the British media: John Cleese, the actor and comedian of “Faulty Towers” fame, has reached a settlement in his acrimonious divorce from his third wife. The deal will cost him 12 million pounds, or more than $18 million dollars.

A divorce from wife #2 in 1988 cost Cleese a mere $4 million. I think he got away cheap from the first wife.

It’s sad to read these things. Cleese, who is nearly 70, will have to continue working to pay for his living expenses and his ex-wives. Counseling is cheaper and reconciliation is best of all. I’m amazed he didn’t have a pre-nuptial agreement.

This is the way the world behaves. It is doubly tragic when we see far too many Christians behaving in the same fashion, as if God can make no difference when we know and should demonstrate otherwise.
