I get a little nervous when we start delving into the Old Testament, and then apply it to the American value system. This assumes that America is a Christian nation with a Biblical system of government, and these are not true. Should we be applying the system of Israelite government to twenty-first century America? The Pentateuch is the Law of Israel. The main passage that shows that government ought to have the power to execute is the one in Genesis 9, but the New Testament, such as Romans 13, has more clarity on the issue. At the same time, if there is a way for people to get a second chance and get rehabilitated, then I don’t think that is a bad thing. But I cannot deny that the government has the right is to “execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.”
Thank you.
