This is the problem with parents today. How easy it is to blame your faults in raising a child on a movie or book or anything for that matter. YOU are always your childs teacher. How you raise your children will always over come peer pressure. You must have communication with your children. If you dont want your child to have sex before they are married then you just dont tell them NOT to do it. But give them the praise that they are worth the wait. Whom ever posted this must not have read the books. Yes Bella needs more self confidence, however Edward is a supportive boyfriend who wants the best for her. How rare this man is even in real life and for young girls to read a book that has an example of what a man should do and act is a blessing. Just like Harry Potter. So many "Christians" said this book series is evil. But its a story about a young boy who over comes big hardships and still can make it through every day life. If magic is evil, then I guess every clown trick is the devil

If the person who wrote this article thinks he read his Bible, then he better read it again. I believe that all authors out there pass along a Christian message in literature whether they know it or not. As Christians, it is our job to look at things with love instead of accusation. Is this not what Jesus stands for? I believe that the Cullen family as a group of "vampires" could stand for people searching for acceptance the same way we as humans often do. It's human nature. When Christ came to earth, he accepted them all: lepers, prostitutes,moneychangers, EVERYONE. What he DIDN'T accept were the views of the religious community who looked pious on the outside, when in truth they were pure evil on the inside.

Also, I think Bella and Edward's relationship was as it should be: a friendship first. In most teen movies-and even in adult movies-people meet, fall in love, and are in bed together in a very unrealistic short period of time. Although certain parts of the movie may seem unscriptural, why can't people take what is truth and leave the rest? I think today's teens are more than capable of doing that. Twilight should be viewed as fantasy; that is exactly what it is. If you look at the series (and really READ and understand what you are reading) through spirtual eyes, it can be a quite enriching piece of literature.

I feel the person who wrote the article has obviously not read the Twilight series. If he/she would have read the series they would have seen that Edward never stopped Bella from ever seeing her friends or family. He encouraged it. He was never violent nor emotionally abusive towards her. She loved him just as much as he loved her. And you read that in NEW MOON. Despite how he feels for her he leaves her for her own good, he is trying to protect her. And further on she makes friends and falls in love with his enemy, Edward never stops her from seeing him, if anything he encouraged her to go to him. The book is fantasy. It is about love and passion and what one would do for love. It is not to be taken seriously as most fantasy books shouldn't. This goes back to the parents. If your children are not mature enough to handle fantasy then don't let them read it. I suggest reading the series before passing judgment. Bella is a strong character, you would see that if you read it.

dcasas, There are different explanations for vampires in different works of fiction just like there are different explanations for zombies, elves, etc. The vampires in Twilight are not anything like the explanation you quoted. They are a different species of living creature created by venom that they carry in their bodies. They have a strong thirst for human blood, but they can overcome this thirst and do not require human blood to sustain themselves. The vampires debate among themselves whether they have souls, and it is never mentioned whether their origin is supernatural or wholly natural. Many parts of the book seem to suggest natural explanations. You shouldn't criticize the books based on false information. I find it really sad that so many Christians accept such books as being "okay". I can find many books that are more appropriate for my children. Might be a good idea to start with the Bible and see what God has to say about evil. We have become far too accepting of questionable books and movies. I have done a considerable amount of research on Twilight and do not reccommend it.

Folklore states that - A vampire is the manifestation of an unclean spirit possessing a decomposing body. This undead creature is considered to be vengeful and jealous towards the living and needing the blood of the living to sustain its body's existence.

Does this sound Godly to anyone? Does this sound like something that pleases the Lord and that we should be mediating on? Vampires are not real, but Satan IS.

This is the 2nd article on Twilight I've read. Many of my nieces & ect. are completely enthralled with this, so I decided to go see the movie with some friends, just so I would have an idea about it. Now if you are of the world I can see how this movie isnt so bad. abstinance is promoted. It is certainly a cut above the gory sickening vampire movies many kids watch & love today. So from a worldly standpoint, there is certainly much worse out there our kids could be & are watching & reading. BUT, if we claim to be followers of Christ ,we are not of this world neither are we to love the world or the things in it. Aren't we as Christians admonished to bring up our children in the fear & admonition of the Lord? How, I ask You, dear christian parent, do these books help us do that? We are to shun the very appearance of evil & teach our children likewise. The Church is so steeped in the things of the world we have lost Godly discernment. What would Jesus think of these books? enough said.

I have a real problem with denominations telling people they should not be reading books (or letting their kids read books) that are not written by Christian authors, are questionable, etc. That whole reasoning was a large part of why my little brother left the church at one point, and almost his faith. (It was also the key element of the Inquisition, if I recall correctly :) I don't think it's good to always be telling kids no to reading books because they are a Christian. It makes them angry and rebellious. Rather, read these books WITH your kids and talk through the issues with them. They will then develop the ability to filter what the world tells them through a spiritual lens. This will help them ultimately, decide what to watch or not watch or read or not read when they are no longer with you

my daughter wanted to see the movie and read the books and my 1st rule is mom reads or sees 1st if there is any shadow of doubt. i did see the movie and read all 4 books. there were issues i had with it but used them as a way to talk with my 12 year old, she asked some questions, more than anything i enjoyed having something to share with her, to do together. it brought up mush discussion and i enjoyed the story although i feel personally that the author went down hill after the 2nd book, contradicting her own work in the 1st 2 books with the rediculous turn of events in the last 2.
i pray any teens or people any age will hold everything they put before themselves up to scriture asking God to guard thier hearts and give them wisdom in all things.

I was just reading over what every one has posted about this book.My daughter wants to read them,now as a Dad and a follower of Christ.(First and for most I want to bring glory to God).I am NOT putting any one down for what they have posted.After reading what was posted 2 Timothy 4:1-5 comes to mind.AS a Dad I want my daughter not just to know about God but to know him in a deep way and to live for him alone.I just can not see how this is bringing glory to are Father.When I came to Christ the old die & past away and now I'm new in Christ Jesus,my life is not my owe I live for God.My daughters life is not her owe.I just think as a follower of Christ I need to be bold to make a stand not to cave in to this world and the things in it.This is not saying I'm in your face but it is saying Jesus is my Lord my King he die for me so I could live for him!Seek God with ALL your heart,parents read Deuteronomy 6:4-9 know this that YOU ARE LOVED.God bless Talbott

As a guy, I find TWILIGHT rather interesting, my mom read them all and told me that it was all true to how the teeenage girls think, so I read the first book. It was a very good book, but I've read much better books in the past. A lot of chriatians went into "we are perfect little christians that go to church and read our bibles and you are filthy sinners that God will damn to hell because you read this book and watch this movie, and dress like that, and listen to this music" mode including dovetales. STOP IDOLIZING YOURSELF FOR BEING A CHRISTIAN AND STOP TELL TEENAGERS THAT THEY ARE SINNERS AND GOING TO HELL LOVE THEM AS CHRIST LOVED YOU! Also there is nothing wrong with a work of FICTION as preacher_nathan said. I find these books to be very good.
