Jim really hits the nail on the head here. Not too many of us really consider why government is concerned about marriage in the first place. It is not to dole out benefits to those who declare themselves "committed." Marriage is about children and procreation. Since same-sex couples can't procreate, it's clear why government should give preferential treatment to opposite sex couples when it comes to marriage. That's not bigotry. That's simple common sense.
