Although I don't need archeological evidence to "prove" what I believe about Jesus Christ and the Word of God to me, finds such as Herod's tomb give credibility to my testimony of the Christ I follow. Thank you for this informative and inspiring article, which I plan to reread several times. I also emailed this to my husband, who teaches our couples Sunday school class.

Concerning BC/AD and BCE and CE:The terminology hasn't changed. Rather, the use of BC and BCE have both been in use for many generations by different groups of people. Many groups see the dating of the world according to the dictates of their faith. For example, for me, as a Jew, today's date is the 21st of the Hebrew month of Iyar, 5767, which Jews mark from God's creation of the world. If someone chose not to use this dating system, I would not suspect him/her of denying the existence of God or God's creation of the world on that date.
The use of BCE & CE is a scholarly convention that recognizes that the dating by the Christian Era is not the only version of dating that exists in the world, however since it's so widespread, it makes sense to use it, while calling it something more neutral (Common Era). There is no intention by using a different dating system to deny Jesus as Messiah, but rather to a practical means of having everyone on the same page of the calendar. ~Miriam Vamosh

WOW!!! Great piece of work, Eva Marie and Miriam! I just love the perfect balance that was struck between historical significance, personal experience and practical application. I felt I was right there with you within moments of starting the article. Anytime you can bring people, places and stories of Scripture to life in such a compelling way, it brings great value to the Body. I sure hope we will be seeing more from you from the land of Israel! Blessings!

I think it interesting and a bit scary that a "Christian" website would allow the use of the 'nonreligious' and non-historical use of CE instead of AD in one of its articles. And make the claim that it is beyond a doubt Herod's tomb. According to the supporting article, this is most likely Herod's but has not been conclusively proven yet.

Fantastic, all the way around. I find it ridiculous that the American press is reporting on this only tentatively right now (they don't want to confirm anything), but I'm not surprised. A great article, and a great find.

Your enthusiasm concerning this breakthrough certainly shines through in your writing. The historical background and what it means to me are nice touches. Great job!!!

Dear Fleabyte,

You are thinking of Herod Antipas...this was Herod the Great. Herod the Great died when Jesus was a boy. Herod A. died after the resurrection and ascention. (See Acts 12)

This is so exciting! Wasn't Herod eaten by worms? If they find his body, will they be able to prove the cause of death?
