It's A Big Deal - Today with Allen Jackson - October 28, 2020

Romans 4:25

He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

The thing that sets Christianity apart from all the other religious systems in the world is the belief that the One we worship is alive. You can visit Mohammed’s tomb and Buddha’s burial place, but our God is not a pile of dust in a grave—He is alive! I’ll never forget a lecture I heard in graduate school. We were studying the literature and religion of the New Testament, but this class was not a particularly faith-filled environment. The professor was lecturing, and I was taking notes as fast as I could. Then he said, almost in passing, “What separated Christianity? What caused it to emerge? Those first disciples really believed in Easter.” I kept writing, and it suddenly occurred to me that he meant they really believed in the resurrection. People sometimes ask me, “Why do we make such a big deal out of Easter?” I’m of the opinion that if God raised His Son from the dead, those of us who have chosen Him as Lord ought to have a full out, hands on, all hands on deck celebration of that when we’re given the opportunity. The resurrection, the redemptive work of Jesus, is at the heart of the Christian faith. Through the cross God has made complete provision for our lives in time and eternity. The One who gave His life for us, is watching over our future!

Heavenly Father, how grateful I am that the God I serve is not a pile of dust in a grave! Lord, the enormity of the resurrection is beyond my comprehension, but I claim its truth and power in my life. I celebrate today that my God is living and active in the earth and in my life and in the lives of all of His people. In the name of Jesus, our Risen King, amen.
