ISCF! Check It Out!

I'm a 17-year-old Malaysian and this isn't about what we did, really, but what God has been doing through us – the "us" meaning my Inter-School Christian Fellowship (ISCF). It is a network of ISCFs throughout my town, Kuching, organized and maintained by an organization called Scripture Union.

In the school itself, we have a committee that organizes programs, treasury and various student ministries.
I would like to point out several things we do to make a difference in our school:

First, we have a weekly prayer meeting. This meeting is not the same as our weekly ISCF meeting. In our prayer meetings, we pray for our school, principal, teachers and students. We also lift up all of our ISCF members, that they may be a light that shines in the school.

Secondly, we have very dedicated teachers who make every effort possible to serve God in the ISCF. One teacher, who recently retired, had served in the ISCF for 5-10 years – much longer than I have been studying in that school. Our “teacher in charge” now is very dedicated and committed to seeing the ISCF grow both in number and in relationship with God. At times we organize collections for missionaries overseas, and she pledges to double any collected amount from the students. If it was 1000 ringgit collected, she poured in another 1000. Many people have come to know Christ through our teachers who show God's love both in and out of the classroom.

Lastly, we have very committed committee members. Being one myself, I see the spirit of people working together, and the commitment and desire to serve God in the ISCF from among my fellow students. The students of the ISCF also work on bringing new people into the ISCF, and many have become Christians through this process.
For us, it’s not about talking about what we have done, but what God has done through us. This "difference" that we have made is more than we could ever have imagined. Comparing our school now to 10 years back, we see a vast difference in its spiritual condition because of its vast change due to the service of teachers and students alike. Our ISCF is now one of the most vibrant and active ISCFs, and we work together with other schools, as well, so that their schools will also feel this growing revival.

I really did this not because prizes were involved, but because I felt compelled to testify of God's grace and love for the people in my school. Having been a student in the U.S. for two years, I can sort of understand the religious limitations brought on by their legal battles over things like praying openly. And I thank God that even in a predominantly Muslim country where Islam is the national religion, Malaysia, we have the freedom to worship God in the very compound of our school.
