How To Deal With Offenders

Here is the example and procedure I would like us to follow:

1 User is corrected for offense With the instruction that if you have any questions, comments, or concerns please email them to community@salemwebnetwork.com

(USER), I am a moderator at this site.  Please refrain from (OFFENSE).  It's against the Terms Of Service.  If you have any questions, comments or concerns please email them to community@salemwebnetwork.com

2 User gripes about correction and makes a statement about Moderator action.

3 Mod PMs user:

(USER), I'm not authorized to discuss or debate this with you further. You need to refrain from (OFFENSE). If you have questions, comments, or concerns about this warning please send them to community@salemwebnetwork.com

4 User continues to argue via PM OR make public complaints

5 Mod kicks user GET IP FIRST:

You have been kicked in an attempt to communicate to you the seriousness of this warning. Please do not (OFFENSE).  It is against the Terms of Service. You may return if you agree to abide by the Terms of Service. Should you ignore this warning further action will be taken. If you have questions, comments or concerns please email community@salemwebnetwork.com Your cooperation is appreciated. Respectfully, (MOD HANDLE)

6 User returns and continues to make a public issue about the corrections they have been receiving.

7 Mod bans user instructing them as follows (kick again, don’t check ban box –if come back, click box, but not if they are an aol user):

How to Respond to Questions about How The Site Is Run

Often times chatters will ask questions about IP addresses, or if moderators can do this or that.  Moderators are not authorized to give out such information.  As curious as chatters may be, we aren't allowed to give away secrets, so this is the proper response:

Please email community@salemwebnetwork.com with your question.  Moderators are not authorized to discuss community policies or admin tools.

Lobby Rules

Since the lobby is reserved for welcoming new comers, a few special rules apply.

No Deep Conversations in the Lobby:

(USER), please allow me point out that currently you are in the lobby.  The lobby is a room reserved for light chitchat and welcoming new comers.  The current topic is a wee bit too heavy for the lobby.  There are however, plenty of other rooms on this site.  Perhaps a topic about (TOPIC) should be moved to (ROOM SUGGESTIONS).  If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about this, please email them to community@salemwebnetwork.com.    .... just a note from your friendly neighborhood chat moderator.

No Speaking in Foreign Languages:

(USER), please allow me point out that currently you are in the lobby.  The lobby is a room reserved for light chitchat and welcoming new comers.  Because of this, this room is an English speaking room only.  There are however, plenty of other rooms on this site.  In fact the international room was created just for greeting others from around the world and speaking in foreign languages.  If you wish to continue to speak in a foreign language let me suggest that you move there. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about this, please email them to community@salemwebnetwork.com.    .... just a note from your friendly neighborhood chat moderator.

If you are posting an email or content, including lyrics from another offline source please be sure to include the source. (Again, do not post the entire contents.)

[Admin Note: Chatters may quote lyrics in chat as long as those lyrics do not violate our Terms of Service and as long as the person quoting them is not disrupting the rest of the conversation.  This rule varies from the one in Forums which does not allow a person to post the entire lyrics of a song.]

-UserA is sitting in the Lobby and not saying anything publicly. UserB says, "No PMs please." UserC says, "I don't accept PMs."   I do have a problem with this.

(USER), I am a moderator at this site.  Please refrain from making personal attacks against another member in chat.  It's against the Terms Of Service.  If you have observed a violation of the TOS, please use the offender report form instead.  If you have any other questions, comments, or concerns please email them to community@salemwebnetwork.com

NOTE: Chat "Private Messages" are recorded by chat logs as a matter of course and will be viewed by Salem Web Network staff in any reading of chat log transcripts.

(USER), sending unsolicited PMs to multiple people in a room is a form of harassment. Chatters should be courteous and ask someone if they would be willing to accept the PM. Chatters who disregard this notice may be banned.  If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please email them to community@salemwebnetwork.com

Private Rooms TOS

Creating a "private" room in chat communicates a preference to not be interrupted. It does not constitute a prohibition on the entry of others. Chat conversations can and will be monitored by Chat staff, often without the knowledge of those present. All Chat conversation is logged and transcripts of conversations are the property of Salem Web Network and can be used for any purpose whatsoever.
Salem Web Network promises to protect the identities of chat participants by changing chat handles and modifying any personal information revealed in chat conversation in any public use of chat transcripts.

Simple courtesy suggests that chat users will only want to stay in private chat rooms if their presence is welcomed.

[Admin Note: I do not have a problem with users creating a room that duplicates an already existing room. Nor do I have a problem with a user creating a room intended for one particular gender or age. Yes, someone can create a Men only room even though we already have one.  If a user creates a room they have the authority to ask people to leave that room.  If a person is asked to leave and he/she refuses the creator of the room should ask a mod to enforce the request.  A user may not go into a permanent room and ask people to leave it. If the room creator engages in personally attacking the other person then they are in violation of the TOS too. However, first priority should be given to removing the first offending chatter.]

- Respect someone's request if they say they don't believe in Christ or are doubting their faith and express that they do not wish to discuss it, don't try to "cram" Jesus down their throat. Material Objectionable TOS

16. You will not promote by repeated statements, by provision of URLs to other Web sites, by recommendation to engage in non-community activities such as watching programs, reading books, or attending events, or by any other means, beliefs or teachings contrary to those of Christianity as articulated by the historic creeds, as understood by Evangelicalism, and as interpreted by Salem Web Network in its sole discretion.

- Refrain from making statements or URLs which promote the acceptability of the homosexual lifestyle, adult entertainment, sexual immorality or pagan and false religions. No repeated posting of URLs to sites which have content that would violate the Terms of Service, the Nicene Creed or other majorly accepted scopes of Christian beliefs as interpreted by Salem Web Network at their sole discretion. If you are unsure about a site or content please direct your question to community@salemwebnetwork.com. This rule also applies to any material whether it be on the web, in print, on video, or on audio. (No telling everyone to go check out Anton Lavey's latest published audio speech.)

9. You will not promote or transmit via chat or forums any information, data, graphics, text, files, links, software, or other materials ("content") that are or may be considered to be unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, pornographic, obscene, or hateful; that are racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable; or that violate any copyright or other intellectual property or the proprietary rights of any person.

Unsafe Ministry TOS

17. Salem Web Network reserves the right to determine what forms of Christian "ministry" can be safely practiced within chat and forums and to prohibit at its sole discretion any form of ministry that it deems unsafe.

Salem Web Network prohibits the exercise of prophecy, dream interpretation, "words of knowledge," speaking in tongues and praying for or coaching others in the receipt of speaking in tongues, within chat and forums. This is not, however, reflective in any way of the views of Salem Web Network or its staff on the legitimacy of such practices in a local church setting.

No coming into the community and proclaiming that God told you that everyone should send the Community Manager massive amounts of fudge. You may say to someone that you felt led to share a portion of scripture in order to encourage and lift up a brother in Christ or lead someone to a saving knowledge of the Lord as long as you are not in violation of rule number 10.

(USER), I am a moderator at  this site.  I am going to have to ask you to stop (TYPE IN THE TYPE OF UNSAFE MINISTRY).  The practice of this can be dangerous apart from supervision by duly appointed spiritual leaders such as pastors and the accountability that comes from being known within a local church.  Becsause of this, it is against our Terms Of Service to pratice it in chat.  If you have any comments, questions, or concerns about this, please email community@salemwebnetwork.com

Respecting Mods

(USER), Salem Web Network has designated certain users in forums and chat, commonly called Moderators, to moderate the discussions. All users are required to immediately comply with any moderator directive. Failure to do so may result in loss of access to the site. If you believe a moderator directive is incorrect you should not discuss it in the community. Instead send an email to the Community Manager at  community@salemwebnetwork.com who will review the problem and make final judgment.

MarsHill NoNo’s

There are a few boundaries for Marshill  (believe it or not ;) ).  They are as follows:

Unacceptable:

Bible - Forceful and sustained argument that, for example, the Bible does teach certain things to be true but that it is wrong when it does so, that the Bible is riddled with contradictions and is historically unreliable, or that the Bible is a purely human document.

Unacceptable:

Homosexuality -There is very little room for discussion on the core issues on this topic:

Forceful and sustained argument over the acceptability of homosexual marriage or adoptions; that the Bible does not prohibit homosexual activity, or that it does support homosexual marriage; that homosexuals cannot change and that it is discriminatory to argue that they can.

Name calling or jokes about homosexuals, any discourtesy whatsoever to self-identified homosexuals, or advocacy of the OT death penalty for homosexuality.

Unacceptable:

Evolution - Forceful, sustained argument that science has completely disproved any involvement of God in creation and that evolution, if true, requires that God not exist or that human beings are nothing more than animals.

Unacceptable:

Gender - Refusal of a female monitor to correct a male TOS violator. Argument that female users should be more deferential to male users in debate or discussion of spiritual issues. Any theological convictions on gender roles are meaningless in practice in Faith Community Network because all users are totally equal in privilege to debate or discuss, to serve as a monitor, or to receive correction.

Unacceptable:

Spiritual Gifts - Pressuring other users to practice spiritual gifts, to seek a specific supernatural spiritual experience, or coaching them in the receipt of such gifts or experiences. Offering of "words of knowledge" or prophecies to other users, or "praying in tongues" within the community is prohibited for reasons explained in more detail in Faith Community Network Terms of Service #17. Sustained and vigorous argument to the effect that any one manifestation of "revival" such as in Toronto or Brownsville Florida are necessarily of God, or necessarily of Satan are equally unacceptable.

Unacceptable:

Versions of the Bible - Forceful and sustained argument that any one widely available modern translation is uniquely dangerous, a product of a harmful conspiracy, or alternatively, supernaturally accurate. Faith Community Network will have zero tolerance for the aggressive and disruptive tactics of a minority of lovers of the King James translation who make this issue a basis for fellowship with other Christians.

Unacceptable:

Mennonites Military Service - Attacking the character or motives of someone who differs in this area or denying that he or she is a Christian.
